THE ADMINISTRATIVE CONTROL

The Labour Bureau is an attached office of Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India and headed by Director General. The two. wings of Labour Bureau are located at Chandigarh and Shimla. Besides this, it has four Regional Offices at Kolkata, Kanpur, Ahmedabad and Chennai and Sub-Regional Office at Mumbai.

FUNCTIONS

 Labour Bureau is responsible for collection and publication of statistics and related information on wages, earnings, productivity, absenteeism, labour turnover, industrial relations, working and living conditions and evaluation of working of various labour enactments etc. It is a storehouse of important economic indicators like Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial, Agricultural and Rural Labourers; wage rate indices and data on industrial relations, social economic conditions in the organized and unorganized sector of industry etc.

THE DECISION MAKING CHANNELS AND PROCESS

All the decisions are taken by the Head of the Department. These decisions are executed by various Head of the Sections. They in turn are assisted by number of Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors and Economic and Statistical Officers.

NORMS

The Bureau purchases goods for the administrative management of the organization through Local Purchase Committees. It has set detailed norms as desired by the CVO, which is available with office administration.

RULES/REGULATIONS FOR DISCHARGING OF FUNCTIONS             

The Labour Bureau discharges its functions and duties under the Rules as framed by Government of India.

STEPS TAKEN TOWARDS IMPLEMENTATION OF RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT, 2005-06
  • The Bureau has already completed action for designing CPIO and ACPIO, as well as LINK CPIO and ACPIO.
  • Action for computerization of records  and putting the same on website is in hand.
  • Any person can request for information from CPIO or ACPIO in Hindi or English after depositing requisite fee under the Act . either by cash or by IPO, draft in favour of PAO, Labour Bureau, Chandigarh
  • CPIO is to provide the information ( on payment of prescribed fees) within 30 days of receipt of request, subject to exemption under Section 8 and Conditions under Section 11 of the Act.
  • Rejection of request, if any, is to be communicated by CPIO alongwith reasons for rejection.
  • Appellate Authority has also been designated.
